Thanks for setting up this forum Bob. Let's assume before we undertake a solar project we have already lowered our power use through better insulation in the attic, improved windows or at least putting plastic across them in the winter for an improved air barrier. That might be a worthwhile thread in itself....Ways to cut waste and improve efficiency before trying to increase electricity production.
But here I would like to discuss best practices you might recommend for putting in a system in stages:
What elements would you consider in sizing the system initially? Percentage of Amps used per average day?
Solar panels are made in cells. What is the most cost effective price point for buying panels from manufacturer's?
What is cheaper? 1) setting up a battery/inverter system or tying into the grid and selling back power? I have a circa 70's house with a lot of fabric covered two-wire runs. I don't know how much of the house's wiring I would be required to update by code. I might also have to build a separate (permitted?) shed/room for the batteries and inverter.
What are the things I should consider initially?
Thanks
